Brampton Housing Need Survey (July 2005)

Conclusion

Of the 75 households who completed Part II of the form, 33 were found not to fit the criteria of being in genuine housing need in Brampton for the following reasons:

12 households owned their houses outright and were judged to have sufficient capital to move and meet their own needs on the open market.

7 household’s submitted incomplete forms therefore no judgment could be made.

1 household moved into shared ownership accommodation and now want to purchase on the open market stating that due to personal circumstances, the move made was the wrong one to have taken.

2 household are currently living in private rented or tied accommodation and have sufficient capital to move and meet their own needs on the open market.

5 households all with a mortgage have stated that they want to move to larger accommodation and all have sufficient capital to do so.  They have been judged to be able meet their own needs on the open market

2 households both with a mortgage are looking for smaller accommodation and both have been judged to have
sufficient capital to downsize and meet their own needs on the open market.

2 households are looking for accommodation outside the parish and hence are not within the remit of this parish survey.

1 household is currently renting from a Housing Association and is looking for larger accommodation.  Her home has been judged sufficient for her current needs and her quest for larger accommodation is therefore aspirational.  She also wants to get onto the property ladder but does not have the resources to do so.

1 household is living in private rented accommodation and is adequately housed at the present time.  They state that they want to move to a larger home and purchase on the open market.  Unfortunately, from the information provided they do not have the capital to be able to purchase and as they are adequately accommodated, this has been judged to be aspirational and not a need.
