Bootle Housing Need Survey 2008

Bootle Parish Housing Needs Survey May 2008

Key Findings

The Survey

Three hundred and sixty-five survey forms were delivered by hand to the householders and businesses of the parish of Bootle (100%), with a return date of 14th May 2008.  One hundred and forty-three householders returned their completed forms.  This is a return rate of 39.18% which is above the average 30.62% return rate for this type of survey in Cumbria since 2003 and the national average of 35%.

The 2001 Census information for Bootle Parish shows that there were five (1.4%) second homes or holiday homes in the area and that there were thirty-one (8.8%) vacant household spaces.  These figures may have increased in the past seven years, and these households are unlikely to have responded to the survey.

Of the returned forms, thirty-four (23.78%) responded saying that either the whole family or someone living in the household needs to move, within the parish, in the next five years.  This will be analysed further in this report.  According to surveys completed by Cumbria Rural Housing Trust since 2003, an average of 18.41% of completed forms identified a local housing need.

This report details the information derived from these thirty-four survey responses who expressed a need.  Six of the households are on the Local Authority and / or a Housing Association waiting list.

Housing Need

Of the thirty-four households indicating a housing need, we consider that thirteen are in need of affordable housing within the Bootle Parish area.
