The Survey

We posted out 330 survey forms to the parishioners of Haverthwaite (100%). 89 households returned their completed forms. This is a return rate of 26.97%.

Of the returned forms, 20 (22.47%) responded, saying that either the whole household or someone living in the household needs to move, within the parish, in the next 5 years. This will be analysed further in the conclusion to this report. In Cumbria since 2003 on average 19.15% of returned survey forms, completed by Cumbria Rural Housing Trust, have identified a local housing need.

This brief report details the information derived from these 20 survey responses who expressed a need. 4 of the households are on the Local Authority or Housing Association register or waiting list.

Methodology

Household address information was provided by South Lakeland District Council.  This was checked with the Parish Council.

The housing needs surveys were posted to all households in the Parish of Haverthwaite, including Backbarrow, ie 100%, this included second homes and holiday homes.  These households were in post code sector LA12 8.  A return envelope was provided.

A meeting was held with the Parish Council before distribution to explain the surveys, and it was agreed to publicise the survey within the parish through posters and talking at meetings.  A press release was sent out and an article appeared in the press publicising the survey.
