Glassonby Housing Need Survey 2011

Glassonby Parish Housing Needs Survey May 2011

2. Introduction & Key Findings

Cumbria Rural Housing Trust, commissioned by Eden District Council and supported by the Parish Council conducted a Housing Needs Survey in Glassonby Parish which includes the villages of Gamblesby and Unthank.  The purpose of the survey was to identify the need for affordable housing in the parish.  This report details the information derived from the survey responses.

The survey work undertaken at local level provides information for the Parish Council regarding the housing needs of their community and is essential evidence for Eden District Council, planners, Registered Social Landlords and developers to establish if there is a need for affordable housing.

Copies of the findings of the survey are distributed to Glassonby Parish Council, Eden District Council, and are placed on the Cumbria Rural Housing Trust web site.

The Survey

148 survey forms were hand delivered by members of the Parish Council to all households (140) and businesses (8) within the parish of Glassonby (100%).  79 households returned their completed forms (56.42%) and 0 business (0%).   This is a total return rate of 53.38%, which is well above the 32% average return rate for this type of survey in Eden District. Cumbria Cumbria Rural Housing Trust expresses its thanks to the Parish Council and others in the community for their work to promote the survey.

Of the returned forms, there were 17 (21.52%) responses, saying that either the whole household or someone living within the household wished to move within the parish in the next 5 years, this also includes returns where a future potential need has been identified.

See Appendix 1 for the criteria used to determine whether a household is in need.

Housing Need

Of the 17 survey responses, indicating a housing need, some had a multiple need, giving 20 in total.   Of these, 7 households are in need of affordable housing within the next 5 years in the parish of Glassonby. The main need is for rented accommodation.

1 of the respondents stated that they were registered on the Local Authority and/or a Housing Association or other waiting list.

The current household types of those in housing need are:
